Al, modern tech is good stuff. I always shake my head when I see old photos of guys riding across country on rigid frames. Sunscreen? Check. Water? Check. Hemorrhoid Cream? Check.
Yep. When I see guys on highway blow by me at 90 with no helmet,no windshield and obnoxiously loud pipes, I just shake my head...... with no windshield yet, 50 mph sucks!

My glasses were always the problem when riding without a windshield. They wanted to bounce around and my eyes got dry pretty fast. The Wiley X glasses are great what with the seal around the eyes

Short ride the other day for 5 miles with no shield and just my regular Oakleys that I wear on the bike, my eyes were tearing like crazy. Better yesterday with glass with foam but they're dark grey tint which I hate. Windshield will be here right about the time I leave for WS17
