You see that a lot. When the "Patriarch" passes, (either the Mom or the Dad), the family do their own thing, politics come into play and no one their to keep the peace.
True. But you also become the patriarch of your own family. When my great-grandfather was still alive we had huge family reunions and his children would come for Christmas and the like. Families drift apart as their lives take different paths. It's just the nature of things I reckon.

Patch work isn't too bad. How big of a hole?
Small hole, (good thing anyway you want to take it) but a large patch to do it right. And a corner where the tape had pulled away. Then discover that whoever did it didn't use a corner piece, so I had to run to Home Cheapo to get that and a corner knife and some joint compound.
