A couple of the subspecies are on the endangered list. You have to have all sorts of paperwork outside of East Texas to hunt them.

I shoot grackles on sight as they kill other birds that the missus likes. Even though these damn birds are "protected" as migratory, they are the scourge of smaller species including dove. They have raided nests around here a few times so I sit out back with a cold beer and shoot at them.
