Was that like the amway of the 80's
Speaking of Elway...did he hit any home runs this week? Or Peyton Manning? A lot of haters in Colorado about Tebow being a washed up QB now playing baseball.
Couple of...coupla...cuppa

Just not fun anymore.
Morning all, Ma's quest for a carry gun might just be over, least for a bit.
Narrowed it down to a Colt Defender in .380 or a Sig P 238 in same caliber.
I've been a colt 1911 fan for many years, but the Defender and Commander models we looked at sucked, really sucked, especially the Defender.
For a semi auto that goes for over $900, the slide and trigger felt like sandaper.
Racking the side and pulling the triggers made my skin crawl.
The gun dealers answer was they need to be broke in..uh huh..and about $200-300 spent at the gunsmith.
Now days you can buy something like a Sig that comes from the factory that is buttery smooth, no need for break in or smithing.
Hit another store that had the Sig new and a loaner version to try, wife was in love with it.
Even in dire need of a cleaning the action was smooth and trigger pull very crisp and clean.
As was the new one we looked at.
Crutches are gone, ankle made it though the day with only a bit of soreness, admitting the 4 Ibuprofen probably helped but back in the game finally.
Project I have going now is selling some of the handguns I won't be using or have no need for, I'm not much on how much a gun is worth and my Shooters guide to gun values is about 10 years old.
Any web sites that can help??
Also walking into a dealer and asking worth is kind of like dealing with a used car salesman.
But Ma has a gun, well she will this afternoon and I get lunch out of it.
I figure I come out pretty good on this deal, all things considering.
(might be a new gun of the old guy here too..shhhhhh.)
Have a great weekend for those who have to have weekends, for the rest, carry on and have fun.
Al
Afternoon fellers.
Glad to hear your ankle is getting better Al.

Stan - Who?
Hahaha .... brings to mind a true story.
In the 80's, I bartended my way through college in a town of less than 200 people. I definitely had my regulars I saw almost every day.
One regular, Ray, was 100% Polish and used to call me Stah-hoo. I guess that's Stan in polish or something goofy like that. He was a great guy with dry wit, and we enjoyed many conversations back and forth over the bar.
Hadn't been there long when I was clued in by others that Ray was WWII Navy, and had been on a destroyer in the pacific that went down. I understand not many of his shipmates survived the event and sharks were thought to be a factor.
One evening after an extra volume of alcohol had been consumed, Ray told me parts of the story. Wasn't pretty and I've forgotten many of the details. Started with a torpedo I think. A few years later alcohol caught up to Ray.
One of those people you meet that you never forget.
Bless all our Vets and the memory of Ray ......
Now ! Back to our regularly scheduled shenanigans ......

I don't know if your friend was aboard her, but the cruiser USS Indianapolis suffered a very similar fate.
Nearly 1200 men on board. 300 went down with the ship and the remaining 900 or so went into the water. It was some days before the survivors were discovered by accident.
There were 316 survivors picked up, The sharks got the rest..
