Afternoon fellers.
Most of the mules were powered by a little 4 cycle ****** 4 banger.
Sorry to hear about yer head problems there Rick. Can't imagine how working in a prison would be stressful..

Small gas motor under the floor at the rear. They were really rugged little things, supposed to be able to carry 1000 lbs. A variety of weapons could be mounted on them, but I wouldn't have wanted to go charging into combat on one of these! The ones I drove all had 4 cycle motors, never heard one with a 2 cycle.

My greatest concern with all of this is that a couple of years ago I have a sinus infection that attacked my left eardrum and damaged my hearing in that ear. Rarity but not uncommon as the ENT explained.
I've worked in the prison system for nearly 18 years. I am back in school so I can GTFOH as soon as possible. My job is easy (Correctional Magistrate)as compared to those who hold the line around here(I was in uniform for 13+ years and in charge of 75-100 officers). Stress is an issue but not nearly as it was years ago when I was responsible for much more or more important things like co-workers safety vs getting a hearing verdict correct.
