Afternoon Woodrows.

Looks like I have my self a little winter project besides the engine build for Ol' Blue.

Several years back, after my uncle died, my cousin gave me an old outboard engine that has belonged to her father; a man who I loved and admired.

I have never tried to start it as I don't own a boat, but knowing the man I would say it was very well maintained and the last time it was used it was run dry and put up.

It's a 1956 Evinrude Fisherman 5.5 just like this one although the paint is not is as good of shape. This thing is 2 years older than I am.

Today I did a perfunctory check out on it and although the controls were a bit stiff, everything seems to move that was supposed to. The spark plugs looked brand new so I know he put them in before no longer using it.

I've never got into one of these so it's going to be a learning experience for me!

Yep. I have been thinking about getting a 14ft Jon boat just to mess around on the river like I did as a kid and this could be just the ticket to push it around if I can get it running.

I should try to scan some of the pics the old man has of the planes he used to work on. Super Sabers, Voodoos and other planes from the 60's and 70's.

Tracy, I had to dig a little bit .. but I found a picture of my dad's "Evercrude" ... this is about 1957. The second picture is my cousin and I sitting on the bumper of dad's 1956 Victoria at Blue Lake in Scottville Michigan. Hard to believe it's been almost 60 years ago. Both pictures are from the same trip.
