Here's a fact...given the choice of losing $900 million and taking a tax write off OR making $900 million and paying tax on it.....I'll take the money and pay the tax.

Al, most of us without the ability to earn several hundred million a year would say the same. If you can 'lose' that much, and remember an enormous amount of that sum is depreciation, investment tax credits, etc. and we could make that much or more the following year I think we'd take the deductions/credits.
