i had bone fusion surgery with four titanium screws in my lower done in 2011. every time i bend over or go up and down stairs it's a quickly thought out calculated move. i make sure when i go up or down stairs i have something to hold on to. when i bend over i make sure i'm planted well enough not to fall over

I am very deliberate on how I walk, bend or climb stairs because of my sciatica pain. Especially now that I went cold turkey off the pain meds. You just learn how to compensate...which of course throws the rest of my body out of alignment, but you rob Peter to pay Paul sometimes.

Al, Thanks - I appreciate the insight.
Doc said her cement had loosened, and some of the bone had "crumbled" whatever that suggests. Now I'm torn about how to advise Mom. I guess she can "live with this" but will have very marginal mobility. On the other hand do I support an 83 year old, frail lady going in for extensive surgery she may not survive?
Oooooofff.

Stan, tough decision to make. But her Dr.'s advice may be the best since he knows her bone structure. A mutually agreed on decision will be the best. As far as being 83, my mother had a knee replacement at 86. She is the worst health imaginable... rheumatory arthritis, every joint and muscle in her body deteriorated plus a bunch of other problems. This is a woman who complains and bitches about every little thing and yet has never complained about her knee surgery. How did your mother handle the original surgery?
