Morning Markus. Little to no snow here. Enough to shovel the driveway, but more of a hinderance than excitement. Speaking of shovelling, I better go do that. Enjoy your day!

i work around 3 nurses all of which are under 27 years old, sometimes i just want to punch them in the head. they're up in the office talking trash about another nurse who's been doing it for almost 30 years, saying she's just to old to do this and needs to retire just because she doesn't want to have to me mandated to stay an extra shift. they have no respect. i told them, you say that because you're more than half her age, you don't know the toll it takes on you

The youth tend to think they have it harder and know more.

It must be the month for negative news. Spoke with my 83 year old mother last night and her left knee which was replaced 3 years ago is loose in the bone and has to be redone. Lots of pain and she has had both knees redone. Said she would never go through that again. Dr. Is calling for a family meeting due to the risk. Dang

Wish the best for both your parents. You're bringing me back 25+ years ago to an area of my former expertise. There are so many factors involved with the loosening of knee implant components, it's very hard to pinpoint an exact cause. There are three types of Knee replacements...Cemented and Cementless and Hybrid (where the femoral component is cementless and tibial component is cemented. The overall long term success rates of Total Knee Replacement is very high for all three types, high 90% bracket.

Some of the factors involved include age of patient, activity level, bone structure, technique, surgeons ability, precision of cuts and fit, micro movement, thermal necrosis... the list goes on and on. The knee is one of the most complicated joints in the body when you look at range and types of motion that it's subjected to. Just the act of walking up steps exerts 4X the body weight of pressure on what is naturally a very unstable joint. Best of luck to your parents.

Morning Mark, Dan, Al what's with the cement? Grade 8 bolts and nuts work pretty good around here.

Methyl-methacrylate bone cement . Basically acts as a grout between bone and implant. Nuts and bolts won't w*rk for these procedures and cement won't w*rk in a tranny,,,unless it's JBWeld....
