TOAK The thread of all knowledge VII
I'm too old to be a geek, I just follow instructions I find on the internet, and on a real lucky day, one in ten actually work. I still haven't figured out how to install a program in Linux, all the instructions seem to be written in another language. And if you misspell a webpage address, you see nekkid ladies sometimes. I seem to have poor spelling skills...

I'm sure once I get it on a hard drive, I'll figure it out. Kinda hard to do running off a dvd. Even if I installed something on another drive, the dvd wouldn't remember next boot. I got a 3 TB drive recently I'm putting all the stuff currently from a 1 TB, then I'll use the smaller one for getting serious with Linux. Long time ago, I knew a lot of tricks in DOS, and just about all the commands, and as unintuitive as that was, the Linux equivalent seems much worse. Probably just a matter of practice and getting familiar with it. Seems like you need to know a lot of commands that would be like using DOS in Windows.
Oh, I forgot the hyphen...it's like this:
papathiele@laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install python3
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
python3 is already the newest version.

I think I saw "terminal session" before, before the foreign language started...

The command line stuff is not as necessary as it used to be. I use command line on my personal laptop so I can "keep my chops fresh" for work since we use Red hat Linux for our work servers and laptops. There is an Ubuntu Software Center that is like the Add/remove Software program in Windows so you can install/uninstall in a GUI rather than command line.
If you do need help with Linux, feel free to PM me. I may not be able to help right away, but like with anything else knowing where to look or what phrase to use is key with Linux.
