My issue with some of these new rounds is availability when you're out in the middle of nowhere and your ammo gets destroyed or turns up missing. Can you go to the local shop and pick up a box of it?
Don't know. I figured you'd want to hand load that stuff anyway.

Especially in a 7.5 pound rifle.

Yep. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the .308/7.62x51 is an awesome cartridge that is extremely versatile and finding ammo is not a problem..

I had .300 Mag in a Ruger M77. Nice shooting rifle. I imagine a Browning with the muzzle brake wouldn't kick too hard.

Certainly don't want to run out of ammo when out shooting 'cans!

Also a great round that delivers a punch at long range. But definitely more recoil than the .30-06

.375 H&H Magnum necked down to .30 caliber

Well, you're not going to decimate a prairie dog town with one.

The ballistics for the .308 don't really lend itself too well for long range shooting. With a 100-yard zero, the .308 drops 389 inches at 1,000 yards and drifts 100 inches in a full-value 10 mph wind. There are better rounds out there. If I knew I could walk into any sporting goods store and pick up some .26 Nosler, I'd buy a rifle today, but as Tracy observed, it is a niche round and I'd hate to have a rifle that I couldn't get bullets for.
