I was stationed in Hawaii for a stretch and one of my additional duties was Reenlistment NCO. I regularly was aboard the Arizona memorial in the performance of those duties and I, reenlisted on the deck of the memorial once. Part of the ceremony was that we all got to run a flag up salute it then strike it. Every visit filled me with the feeling of reverence for the sailors who died during the attack. The respect paid to those sailors by all members of the military is really something to behold. I have some pictures of that around here somewhere.....still have my flag and my certificate that states that my flag was flown on the Arizona which technically it was since the flagpole is attached to the hull.

Evening Woods.

I honor all who have served, fought, and died for our country.

It seems sometimes that our country has a damn short cultural memory of the sacrifices that have been made since the Revolutionary War that broke our ties with England and launched this grand experiment in democracy.

There has never been a country like the one we live in and it is only fitting that every day we honor those who helped make it possible and have kept that great ideal afloat in a world where many would like to see us destroyed; especially as we seem to be in a time where our greatest threat grows from within.

We must never forget and we must teach our children to do the same!

On another note, the wife just told me she had been planning on paying off the AR for my Christmas present.

Oops.

I told her she could buy me a **** load of ammo and a case instead

The youngest boy is in love with this rifle and has been picking it up and shouldering it more than I have.

"This is the coolest gun you have Dad!"

I may have to get him an AR15 for his birthday

Russ, you have inspired me (as poet laureate of the Woods). I have been working on a new poem or two that I hope to read to you all at WS17
