Amazing what some companies will spend because they don't have faith in their own people. Guy I worked with occasionally thought of a way better approach to computer operation efficiency. After he got a working model going for a concept presentation, management realized with their existing equipment they could streamline operations more than their own computer department thought possible and of course they wanted it. So they hired an expert at an astronomical cost and she had to be taught how to do it by their own guy that came up with the idea. He didn't stay with the company much longer, other companies were wiling to pay more for that kind of talent.
