Hey QC, KR, Mick or other Softail drivers,
Are Softails hard on rear tires under normal circumstances?
Kid seems to go through them fast on his Deuce. Says he's driving like a responsible American......

people keep telling they only get 5 or 6 thousand out of their tires. i just added another 900 miles over the weekend from really beat up roads through new jersey, new york and connecticut and back and my tires still look great with 6,000 on them so far. and the bike only had 750 miles on it when i bought it last september .

The guy told me he had lost interest in riding. he traded in a duluxe on this bike, then just didn't ride. was a truck driver. so his wife told him to sell it. i got it for 12,500 on cycletrader.com.. i was going to buy a different one in the same color from another guy in louisiana for 12,000 and it only had 1200 miles on it, but he took forever trying to get the title. i waited a motnh with no results, so i looked and found this one on a thursday and picked it up on that saturday. plus it would of cost me 750 to ship it. this bike was 85 miles from me

On my Heritage and my BIL on his Softail, 6500 was about the max that I was comfortable driving on. With both of us, it didn't matter what tire we put on. We ride a lot of back roads that are rough pave ....think of them like cheese graters on the tire. Put almost 23,000 miles on the Heritage in 19 montrhs and think I used 4 rears . Fronts seemed to get twice the wear.

Well, since this is TOAK - here goes >

http://thememoryhole2.org/blog/nih-pot-studies

Public "secrets" the man wants kept quiet...

I recall that many years ago the US post office tested new hires anonymously in a blind study - then tracked otj performance. And discovered that their pot smokers were their best and safest people...so they buried the study.

Sorta runs counter to the agitprop canon...sorta...

Anyway, innarestin...
