Gosh. Well I was thinking 500 yards but didn't think that short but I get the purpose. Sure wood be good for pig hunting. Even with my 30-06 I've hit a pig and had to chase it down. Biggest kick I've got out of a gun was a shotgun with slugs. Two shots was enough for me. You have a lazer for it considering the range?

I have a LR-308 with 16" barrel that I use for pig hunting. Drops 'em like a rock if you hit them in the right spot. Last time out "hunting" we killed a dozen that were 100+ pounds. Those animals are a blight on natural resources and farms and everyone I know shoots them on sight. I need to get a good thermal sight.

We have a depervation permit at school but sadly we can only trap and shoot them. Now everyone charges a ton for pig and deer hunting on their land. Used to be able to just get permission and go hunt. Thus we havnt hunted for food in many years. Hunting for paper these days.

I have a buddy that manages a large ranch of 5000 acres in South Texas and he does charge for pig hunts but there are a few of us that get to come when things get a little out of hand. Those animals produce so quickly it is hard to keep a handle on them.

Yup. Texas has some issues with pigs. No where near as bad here. They mess up our hay but no big deal. We make some sausage out of the small ones. My buddie just bought 100 acres and some deer on it. Looking forward to teaching the boy to hunt quail out there.

Back in the early 70's I spent two years in Harlingen Texas, we used to hunt them with bows, always had a shotgun back up though.

I am a horrible redneck. I've not used my barrel smoker for so long there were two hornets nests inside.

Afternoon Woodys

.308 is my favorite cartridge of all time. Versatile and capable of tack driving accuracy

That .50 will destroy any size pig Izzo. .223 has killed plenty too. Heart/lungs sits in a little bit different spot than on a deer. Lower and further forward. Shoot one behind the shoulder like a deer and you won't hit anything good, and will never find that pig. That's all you really need to know. Even a huge pig is fairly easy to kill with a good shot.

My bow has destroyed many.

Bowshot below, not a great shot. I was about 2 inches too far back. Line up with the leg, raise up a bit and let her go...
