delaware is an open carry state, can pretty much go to a store and buy a gun today if i wanted to. and we have a few ranges around here that will let you try guns before you buy. but i'm going to take a class that's right down the road from work. all the here guards recommend this place

Desert Eagle .50 would be my choice, Dan.

Dan, you might also consider a S&W .380 Bodyguard.

So i think it's time i arm myself. any suggestions would be great
First thing in a gun fight is of course, have a gun, with that being said the next is having one that's comfortable enough you actually carry it.

While I have a Sig Ultra compact in .45 acp, I tend to carry the Ruger LCR in .38 +p, light, easy to hide, just point and shoot and almost impossible to get to jam.

.38 +P is about the same as a 9mm, if more stopping power is desired, go with the LCR in .357 mag.

I carry mine in a OWB with a thumb break, we have open carry here and if I do need to conceal, a light shirt or jacket works well.

fwiw, not an fan of laser sights for carry, IF you practice enough and considering the range that you'll be shooting at, I don't think having to watch where the dot is located is a good thing, point and shoot still leaves the eyes to watch for other multiple threats and not focused on a dot.

What ever floats your boat though.

I don't think I have ever fired mine with the laser operating. I agree with Al, if ever I have to use it the last thing I wanna do is be worried about looking for a dot.

Does Glock have a single stack sub compact? If you already have a Glock it's good to stick with a family of firearms due to familiarity. Last thing you want to do is react on instinct and forget a new guns opperation, feel and ergonomics. Just something to think about.
