I am told it's not an accepted practice to change the seal and not change the sleeve on the primary shaft, to which the seal mates.
that requires a puller as well as the tool to press the sleeve onto the primary shaft. seen where people have made a pvc collar to drive the sleeve on, but my mechanic strongly suggests not using that method. he says pounding the sleeve on is bad for trans bearings etc.
the guy I bought the bike from is an HD tech and a 30 some year friend. he promises he'll never charge me labour and will pay for any engine parts that fail on his build, but only if I never work on it myself. I'm really struggling to not tear into this thing
