Tim, we have a different mindset about minimum wage here. By and large minimum wage jobs are not designed to be living wages. Usually staffed by high school kids or people supplementing income. A great number of underachievers have decided that because this is the best job that they are qualified for, due to dropping out, poor life decisions, etc etc. they should be rewarded for those circumstances. Instead of improving their skill sets to find a better paying job, they would rather maintain the status quo and be paid better. Doesn't make sense to me.
I would find it tough to find not only qualified people or people who care, paying them 3.50/hour. Not everyone is going to go to school, get a degree and make millions. Still need the people to do the jobs no one wants. To me, making it a "living wage" as you claim, how much would then not have to rely on social services, which the rest of the "schooled" people have to pay for?

Tim, in theory they would not need govt assistance. The reality is prices would go up with the minimum wage so they would be back at square 1.

It actually is if you work your way up the chain. Most never do though. Let's eliminate the minimum wage all together an see what happens.

Viable point. But you're paying "extra" anyways by tipping. How much do you think its going to go up?

Everyone would be making $2.25/hour hahaha. Doctor, lawyers, garbagemen, Walmart greeters.

If cost of living goes up for everything, it's a wash and no one really ends up better off. The people already making tips will still expect to receive them. it really is an exercise in boosting self esteem, not of lifting anyone out of poverty. And truth be told, some jobs are not are not worth more than they currently pay. My recent fast food service (not the food) has been horrible and as mean as it sounds, wasn't good enough for the current $7-8 hourly wage they were getting
