TOAK- Thread Of All Knowledge- Part VI
there's a really cool lookout point called the Dome, on Gold Rush and Yukon Gold tv shows you see a lot of shots taken from here. paved all the way up, 4 or 5 mile ride to the top.
looking south from the dome, the Klondike River runs into the Yukon River from the left in this pic. the Yukon River is cloudy at this point because of volcanic ash deposits that the river erodes and carries to the ocean. the Klondike River is a beautiful blue color
far off in the distance is where dredge #4 sits. it took 18 years for the dredge to crawl 13 miles up the river to where it sank in 1959 and currently sits.

the sourtoe cocktail. had to do it.
yes, it's a real toe. this is toe number 10 since 1972, they have been lost, stolen, and even swallowed by patrons. the last being swallowed in 2013...an American that had been working in Dawson came in, swallowed the toe with his drink and happily plunked down the $500 fine for doing so. now the fine is $2500. this toe was donated by a woman who had been mowing her lawn in flip flops.

lol...I don't think women ever stop doing that Chester.
and it's my turn. first the toe captain gives you the spiel...here's a suggestion, tip the guy 5 bucks for the full monte. both my friends that went before me just paid the 5 bucks and did the shot. I paid with a 20, and got 15 in change and put a fiver in his tip glass...the captain lit up and loudly proclaimed that because I did so, I get the full treatment. he stands up, and makes a huge proclamation and display, it was awesome, the whole time mentioning how my two buddies were cheap bastards. hilarious
ready as it gets
here it is...
and down the hatch. sans toe. "Drink it fast or drink it slow, but either way, your lips must touch this gnarly looking toe!"

just a few more and I'll stop cluttering up the TOAK.
I met Chris Doumitt and Rick Ness from the Gold Rush show. Chris was pretty reserved and playing blackjack in Diamond Tooth Gertie's, so I didn't pester him. Rick on the other hand, was totally cool and after meeting him he stood outside and BS'ed with my buddy and I for a good half hour.
this was a fun night, we camped along the Alaska Highway at a rest area along a river. got terribly inebriated and never broke camp and left until noon the next day. awesome spot with no one around
Watson Lake sign forest, got to put up my long ago stolen sign.
back to your regularly scheduled programming. thanks for letting me post up a visual presentation of the hilites from my trip. hope you fellas (and Helen) enjoy it.
