Lots of cornstalk trash after the corn is combined. If we leave it there, the soil doesn't warm very fast in the spring causing delayed planting. We want grey and black tilled ground to soak up UV in the spring, to speed ground preparation soon as possible.
Most guys will use it or sell it as livestock bedding. It can also be ground up and nutrients added as part of animal rations, but not commonly done.

 

I roll stuff sometimes too.

 

Got it. Makes sense. We use un screened compost as bedding. Interesting to see how easterners do things.
