I'm committed to a touring frame but if you asked me what I'd want for another fun, great all purpose bike, it would be a used softail standard or Deuce.
I take my kids Deuce on occasion... and I love that bike. Clean used are reasonably priced and they are smooth (B Motor), nimble yet very roadworthy. My collection would be complete with my girl-bike (Sporty ....HA), a clean used Deuce and the Road Toad......

Stan the deuce is a great bike and I like that model ('00) a lot! Forged cranks and Timkins in that one I think. You do have the cam chain tensioner issues that might need to be addressed.
