Is it such an old city that the lead pipes predate the concerns of lead poisoning in that manner? ... Actually, yes. Detroit still pumps water ( underground ) through ( are you ready for this ) plumbing that is hollowed out logs laid end to end in certain ares of the city. My oldest son is a Pipe/Steam fitter and some of the stories he tells would amaze you. He doesn't work for the city but is always involved with the infrastructure.

If we would only invest in this country's infrastructure instead of sending billions to iraq and afganastan we vould have created good paying jobs people would have learned good skills and our contractors and equipment manufacturers woulld be back to work !

Ummm, wow. Makes you wonder where all the monies went when Detroit was booming. Oh wait, we know where the money went.

Larry doesn't surprise me at all !! Half our city pupes were orangeburg pipe wrapped in tar paper until the city got a couple of grants from uncle sam to replace the stuff over the last four years !
