1% I believe. Plus any bonds or measures.

Does your employer offer a 401k or other retirement savings plan? Those can be deducted directly from your paycheck. Other IRAs can have the same immediate deduction. Your wife won't even see it his the checking account.

Did you play after high school or just that beat up from HS?

1% on assessed value? That doesn't seem bad...about what people are paying out here for newer homes with that value. Assessments are screwed up here on older homes. Mine's probably worth 300K, but assessed at 12K. Total taxes are around $1400/yr.

Time to go put more eye drops in...3 different drops, one 3x/day, another 2x, and one 1x. Good thing they give you a spreadsheet with places to check off

Yup but old houses get about the same value as new. Mines 1946. I think values are based on sq ft and location and not the age or condition.

Mine was built around 1900, but it's one of those big ones with chestnut woodwork and floors, stained glass windows. I look at the woodwork on raised panels and angle cuts and am amazed at the craftmanship from back them. Could never afford to duplicate it in a new house. But assessments are really screwed up here. They've wanted to do a county wide reassessment overhaul for years, but the costs are too high..I'm fine with what I pay.
