I'll never be able to retire. I've not a penny saved for it, my generation will most likely not get Social Security and I started a family late in life.

Hard road. Never had retirement till I got this gig with the state. Only smart thing I did was buy low and fight like hell to pay this house off on a mechanics income. Now I'm doing okay. Equity rich but bank account poor.
Morning all, might have crappy winters and crappy roads, but my house cost $30,000 and I live in a small quiet town where I can leave my doors unlocked. No complaints here.

Never too late to start Mark. I had some, lost most during divorce. I've started over and doing alright now. Trust me, it ca be done. Don't get me wrong, retirement is still a LONG ways off!

In order to start saving for retirement I'd have to get my own checking account and prevent my wife from having access to it, which brings on a whole new set of troubles. A lot of issues going on there.

I envy you...well, except for the part about not having the Rockies as your western scenery.
