Sometimes custom software has to be constantly tweaked in order to get it to work as desired. There is a product called Remedy that comes out of the box as a bare bones application and you have to build it from the frame up, so to speak. It's not until you get to step 10 that you realize something was missed in step 1 and have to pull back the covers to fix that, then THAT causes another issue...and on and on...eventually it all gets fixed but it can take a lot of testing and tweaking.
I know, more than you wanted to know, huh?

Who could ever tire of the enrapturing allure of IT talk, Mark?

You ain't heard nothin yet! My team is all programmers except me. You can imagine the sort of geekeneese that is spoken on team con calls. Though we (Me and a buddy that is a system administrator) do get quite a laugh when they are talking about performance problems with the database such as "Slow inserts"

We are lucky that most of our stuff is just making changes to existing code and we have a test environment to make sure it works as expected, and to tweak it if it doesn't. It fascinates me, though I know I will never write code for my team (beyond simple command line scripts that aren't for customers to use anyhow)
