True enough ... and with the low/no interest plans it might actually pay to buy new if you're financing. I sold my 1995
Extended Cab ( 200,000 miles ) to my youngest son about a two years after I put rockers, cab corners, door bottoms and painter the lower half ( Silver ). That kind of repair made it look god for about 3.5 years.

Boy ain't that the truth when truck shopping. The bottoms of my rocker panels are rusting out from the salt on the roads here so I'm getting estimates and so far it's lookin' like around 2200 bucks for both sides...I really don't wanna drive a truck with rust holes but new ones are so damn expensive it's prolly worth it. I'm thinkin a low mileage used one next, mebbe 2 to 3 years old and might have to visit Mom in Georgia or some one in Tennessee to find a Southern one that hasn't been in snow!
Larry - I'd like having a pickup that looked as good as the one in your pic. Ain't much I wouldn't fix on a pickup before I'd get rid of it, 'cept rust...

I hadda rocker panel repaired once, and it rusted out more than it was before the repair - in one winter. I just let em rust now, and somewhere tween 15 and 20 years old, junk em. I want a pickup, planning on getting one in the Dallas area when/if I do. So many pickups down there you can get em way cheaper than up here - and no rust.

The bodywork was a good investment. A good friend had a "do it all" shop and needed some work. I wasn't in a hurry and told him to take his time. He did and it came out nice.

Think I was 22 when I had to fix the first repair I had a dealer do on a car. Started buying tools... I did have a transmission replaced near 20 years ago, didn't have a way to get it at out at home. Most of my working life was as an aircraft mechanic, and except for the electronics, not much on a car or bike that worries me to dig into. Most complicated auto repair I've done was fixing a Ford C6 valve body, thing must have more parts than a whole engine. But it worked again when I put it back in the car.
