Adjustable valves. Old school!
Looks like plenty of room between the tub and jug, but it ain't. Could barely get the torque wrench on the head bolts. Pita to reach the valves on that side, unless you're young and flexible - I ain't.
Al, about torquing those head bolts - do that before adjusting the valves. I did a before and after check before actually adjusting them (just on one valve) and it changed. Manual says .002 to .004, on line experts? say go .004-.005. I used this method, way easier than trying to find that flywheel mark in the little hole:

Do it that way, and if the Russian that stamped the flywheel mark had been getting in the vodka a bit too much, it won't screw things up.
Amazing how much quieter the motor is now (valve lash was .008-0.011) Was too late to take it out, give it a run tomorrow. I'll have to adjust those valves when I can hear them from now on. Probably next Tuesday...
