Duh! I knew that! Must be having brain farts this morning. Looks like the Mighty Mississippi goes for a loop right there at the start.

 

So many twists and turns in the first hundred miles of the river. By the time it gets to the twin cities to pretty much straightens out and drops mostly north and south to the Gulf of Mexico.
