Few years ago fired a new 1000 ft/sec air rifle at a target on a few inches of stiff foam, with particle board behind that. 2 holes in the target, in and out.... didn't make it across the room, but made me think a couple old phone books might be better'n that sheet of particle board (they were). A 22 short is quieter than those high velocity air rifles, by the way, gotta wear earmuffs in the basement for an airgun, who'd a thought.
