my first real job at 16 was working for Tony Carlini at his first shop, which was in Michigan. Most of his work was 750 hondas on rigid frames, we built alot of them. They were simple, fast and reliable but as my brother always reminded me, they weren't harleys..

My first bike was a 97 VLX 600, and I thought it was a great first bike. There is nothing wrong with those old school choppers, but I dont see how putting a bolt on 14° rake kit on a bike with some loud exhaust makes it a chopper.
I always though... a "chopper" was a bike one bought, then turned into what they wanted... unlike today's "chopper" which is a bike you buy.
so yeah...ok sure... it's a chopper....

an '04 VLX with 19k miles on it... is worth (as you note) around 3 grand.... add-ons do not add value (unless you find that one RIGHT buyer)

There's a lot of those "chopper kits" for sale, and many of them are in the 2 grand range. My guess is he'll wind up selling it for a LOT less....but the boy can dream.

Not a bad little bike for what it is...he's just gonna have to get reasonable on that "OBO"...one of my favorite mags is The Horse Backstreet Choppers, and a lot of guys send in pics of nice low budget metric chops...
