Default Steevo's 2013 Fall Ride - Write-Up, Re-Cap

Steevo's Fall Trip - Re-Cap Write-Up

Me and Barb started our 14 day, 3000 mile trip on Monday, October 7th with a 350 mile slab-ride to Lake City, FL. Our friends (and yours), Jay (Stronghawk) and Lucy picked us up, took us out to dinner that night.
The next morning, the real riding would start!!!

(Oh, this is how our trip looks on the map)

My morning plans included a 313 mile coastal ride along Florida's panhandle.
But FIRST, I had to attend one of Jay's famous "Tuesday Morning Breakfast Ride" to Cuzin's Café.

There was a good turnout for breakfast, Including our friend Rob Mixon, who was celebrating a Birthday that day.

After we ate, They rode with us out to Perry, we headed for the coast.

I've been wanting to do a "Coastal Panhandle" Ride for quite some time, it just never happened...
Until Now!

It was a really nice ride. These pics are just a few vid-caps from my helmet-cam, not the highest resolution.

Some really cool stilt-houses, scrub pines, hardly any traffic. Until you reach the Panama City area.
Finished our Ride in Crestview FL.

...the bridge to Apalachicola.

DAY 3. Crestview, FL to Biloxi, Mississippi. 172 miles.
Nice easy ride, expecting a quiet afternoon along the beach in Biloxi...
But WHOA!!! There was a huge event going on called "Cruisin' The Coast", the whole town was chock full of Hot-Rod cars!

It was really cool to see all the great cars going up and down the strip. We were so entertained, we almost forgot about the beach across the street!

blah

Day 4. Biloxi MS to New Orleans, LA. (a whopping 87 miles!)

It was our first visit to New Orleans, and let me warn you, NOLA is NOT exactly motorcycle-friendly.
But eventually, I DID find a place to park, did not move the bike for the next 2 days.

This shot was right when we came into town, there was already a "Man Down" in the intersection. Be careful in New Orleans, there are many ways to die here!

Like many great American cities, New Orleans is ripe with history, culture, arts, entertainment.
During the day, there is much to see and learn...

But when the Sun goes down, NOLA is OFF DA' HOOK!

This is NOT Mardi-Gras. It's just a Friday Night on Bourbon Street!

Had a great time in New Orleans...
But now it's time to "Head for the Mountains".
Next stop Chattanooga, TN. - 487 miles

We went to "Lookout Mountain", home of "Rock City" and "Ruby Falls". I highly recommend a visit to Rock City if you are in the area. Great Views!

Once again, it's great to have friends. Ron & Annette Parker came by, picked us up, took us downtown for dinner. Afterward we had ice cream at the "Chattanooga Choo-Choo", a Train Station where old railroad cars are converted into hotel rooms and restaurants. Way Cool!

Next days ride, 226 miles to Asheville NC...
INCLUDING a ride on the Cherohala Skyway!

Great Day, Great Ride. A lot like BRP, but with 1/3 the traffic.

And most of the traffic was the two-wheeled variety.

After a long day of riding, we were soooo thrilled to see our hotel room in Asheville. Now THAT is a "Sweet Suite". Stayed three nights there.

The other reason that I liked that hotel? Less than 1/2 mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway!

The colors were starting to pop in certain sections, but overall not even close to peak foliage.

If only I had one more week!!!

We were both enjoying the cooler temps in NC...
But now it was time to put the mountains in the rear-view.
Next stop Savannah, GA. - 309 miles.

Savannah is great. Love it, Love it, LOVE IT!
Oh, did I mention that it was 45 degrees when we left Asheville, 88 degrees when we reached Savannah. Whew!

Last stop, Daytona Biketoberfest. 229 mile ride from Savannah. Cool place to spend a few hours, but I already wished I was back in the mountains.
To tally our trip as 14 days, 8 states, 3000 miles, it doesn't even begin to describe our journey.
It was waaaay more than that.
And once again, hat's off to my Street Glide!
...already dreaming of my NEXT big ride. -Steevo-

Thanks! Really enjoyed your post. Spent 14 years riding those mountain roads when I lived there. Miss that riding, but not the cold of winter.

Cool, you went to Rock City! Looks like the day you were there was fairly clear. You could actually see a 7 states. If I had known, I could've tried to meet you somewhere for lunch or supper, I live in a little town just east of Chattanooga, between Chattanooga and Cleveland. Looks like a great trip and a fun time. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
