New Harley Owner
Well, it took me 52 years, but I'm finally here. My wife was always resistant to the idea of a bike (especially with Miami drivers). I kept askin', she kept sayin' No! Wasn't going to throw out 32 years over something I never had. Then things changed about 2 months ago.
The husband of one of her childhood friends was diagnosed with renal cancer. They took one of his kidneys and are waiting on the follow up to see if they got it all. Everytime I passed a biker or dealership, I would ask, Now? Finally one day she said, "It's our turn now, A Touring Bike, right?" Well you could hear a pin drop. That weekend I took a motorcycle safe rider course and on Monday got an endorsement.
The following weekend we went to the local Harley dealership right around the corner of the house for their "yard sale" We didn't sell squat, but did go in to look at the bikes. A couple struck our fancy, but the one we wanted was marked sold. The salesman said give him a minute while he talked to the sales manager. 2 hours later I rode home on my first motorcycle. We are now the proud owners of an 08 Electra Glide Ultra Classic with 21k miles and nicely upgraded, including Reinhardt pipes!
I've spent the last few weeks riding it by myself and with some friends who ride to get the feel for the bike and tonight was her inaugural on the bike with me after work.
I dont' know who's more psyched, me or the ole' lady. Sorry for the length of the post, but it's been an awesome day.
