My hat is off to them if they run the route as presented. Congrats to the first pair. I think its way cool they decided to split it as well. I have been wondering about how that was gonna work for people that paired up. I hope they don't get disqualified because they decided to split it. I still feel that Jerry is going to do well in the standings. Goooo Masterblaster!!!!
Mrs. Blaster latest post on FB; 9th day of riding for Hoka Hey Challenge- Jerry reports that he is 100 miles into Canada as of this morning.(9:10AM). Things are breaking down like the sleeping bag's zipper. There is no maintenance station to repair the sleeping bag, so he has to buy a new one. It's getting cooler than states. As of now he is passing Elkford, Canada near the Rocky Mountains according to the Spot Sattelite.
Subtracting 10 hours for gas stops, given a 5 gallon tank on the '08, and 2 hours a day to sleep, they would have to have averaged over 50 MPH for over 8400 miles. If it smells like crap and looks like crap, it is probably, yep you guessed my feelings. Doubt it!!! Oh, yeah, I forgot about eating and peeing!!! Guess they didn't do that either. My figures are based on a 30 MPG average....

Reason: Food
Ok, didn't remember if '08 had a 6 gallon. Still does not compute. Run the numbers at 30 MPG with no sleep or food stops, then add food stops, gas stops, sleep time and it is still close to 50 MPH for 8400 miles. Damn, I forgot bathroom breaks again.....
Rick, there was a post early on in the race, about several riders that showed up first at checkpoint 2, who admitted they hadn't been following prescribed route and knew they would be disqualified from winning. Maybe the same ones?
Yep, first 2 in about 4:20 AM Monday morning ( asssuming Homer time ) after 8482 miles. 190 hours, 20 minutes. Thats just over 44.5 mph...not including any stops. Of course they had to stop for fuel, sleep, eat, check points, border crossings, break downs, etc.
