Default IAT....Intake Air Temp

07 Electra Glide UC......Powervision 1, Fullsac duals, K&n Air filter, KC International Fishtails.....

Why is it that its like 30* outside but my IAT shows about 90*?

Shouldn't it be closer to outside air temp?

(Breather bypass installed)

Are you talking temps before running the bike when cold or after it's been driven?
I think residual heat from the motor raises the temp some.

im talking while riding......Powervision can show the IAT Temp while riding........outside temp is about 30*........Intake Air Temp is about 90*......and I have the breather rerouted so it's not getting any of that heat......I understand it can get some local heat from the motor.......but wouldn't' think that it would be 60* higher

I know that colder air is denser.....while riding I would expect a closer temp to the ambient air ..........

I ran into this today, looking at logs. Its about 50 out when I rode, and im getting 136* IAT. The problem i think is that where it reads that temp isnt very close to the intake (as it shouldnt, needs to be as close to the valve as possible for correct reading) and even that short distance between the intake, intake manifold, and through the valve, when the motors at 300* heats it up pretty quick.
I was trying to find out online WHERE that sensor is located but think of it this way, for 3/4 of the stroke of the motor, the air is sitting inside the manifold, heating up, until the valve open and draws it in. Then it only has (on my bike) 600cc of air to move before it closes, and thats not a lot, at least not compared to whats in the intake warming slowly.

I'm not using PV but on the street tuner, while collecting data, I see the same high temps at low speeds. Open the throttle and it takes a good 4 seconds for the temp sensor to adjust. I suspect that in low flow conditions the manifold heats the incoming air. It probably also heats the sensor. Another thing. If you are using a air cleaner that pulls air in from the back, the air will be heated from the heads.
