Default Can I get a good tune if my clutch slips?

I"m using Powervision with my newly installed HD 103 big bore kit and Wood performance 222 cams. It's a mild upgrade compared to many others for sure but I like what it's giving me. Clutch doesn't seem to slip to me, but what do I know? Answer is not much.

I want to have it dyno'd to get it running as good as it can and I keep hearing about the need to have a beefier clutch to prevent slipping. But I don't know if my clutch is slipping at all or within an acceptable amount.

So the question is: To what extent will a slipping clutch adversely effect the tune?
Sorry if this is a dumb *** question to those knowledgeable.

Why not just put in the screaming eagle spring or equivalent and not have to worry about it. It's very inexpensive.

If your stock clutch slips then you will have difficulty tuning your bike, yes... You can see it on a dyno sheet and sometimes you can just feel it as you ride aggressively shifting at high RPM's especially in the higher gears. The better the efficiency of your motor the more HP/TQ stress on your clutch.

The stock HD clutch will hold OK but only up to a certain HP/TQ depending on age/wear of your disc's. Some say 90HP/100TQ is all a stock clutch will hold. Just dropping a SE spring in won't guarantee a clutch will hold. It will guarantee that you will need Popeye forearms to squeeze the clutch lever.

Diaphragm clutch are much easier to upgrade than the newer style Slip-n-Assist three coil spring clutch that HD uses now. Since you have an 09 then there are many options to help build a nice bullet proof clutch.

I am pushing 100/114 on my 1200 pound trike. The stock clutch burned up at 4000 miles with some aggressive riding but mostly slipping the clutch trying to get that big trike rolling. After several attempts to do something here is what I ended up doing.

Maybe it will help you...

95 pct of tuning is way below WOT. Personally, I would fix the clutch, if for no other reason, to not damage the clutch with heat.

A slipping clutch will kill any chance of getting any peak HP and Torque plots.
