I've got a 2009 FLSTC and will need tires fairly soon, maybe 2k miles or so. I understand some people are running a car tire on the rear. I presume that's to get much longer tread life than with a bike tire? What brand and size? Any particular vendor? Anything else one should know?

 

I am running the Dunlop SP5000 and so far am loving it. 195/60/16

Its not just about the mileage. Its also about the handling/traction and ride comfort.

 

Does that fit on the standard FLSTC rear wheel? Does it clear everywhere? If not, what all has to be done to use that tire?

It depends on what size your back rim is, the width. If it's 5 to 5-1/2 then you can put a CT on your bike. I run a Handkook 205-55-16 on mine. It's a closs fit, but it clears everything. You have more room with the 195-60-16, but a limited selection. the bigger the tire, the more to pick from.
