Default PM 17" rim...think Im out of luck...

Hope this forum can help me out because I really want to run darkside...I have a PM Paramount 17" rear rim. I am the guy who does all the research before starting a project and found people saying they can run a 205/55-17 on my bike which is a 2011 Ultra Limited. Already had the Metzler 880 in 200 width on it and there is plenty of room....and actually my buddy beat me to the punch and out the same General Gmax (205/55-16) on his bike already and it fit fine. Only differences were he is still on the stock 16" rim. I know my PM rim is a little wider than stock (possibly part of the problem). I ordered the same Gmax in a 205/50-17. Well...its too freakin wide a isn't going to work. Rubs the belt for sure....and way to tight everywhere else. Tread measure 8" wide even though the specs say its only 7.1". Also we did notice that the 17" rim tire IS different than the 16" rim tire where the bead is after comparing both. His looks like a standard tire at the bead where as my 17" has a deep lip like a more extreme sports car tire (possibly due to the 17" rim??). At this point I think the 17" rim is screwing me. The rim width is allowing the tire to be a little wide and also changed the way the tire was made (also wider). At this point I was looking for a 195/50-17.....nothing.....but I can find a 195/45-17.....but that just seems like its gonna be a rubberband on the rim and simply too small.....not to mention throwing other things off.....so after all of this I think I must go back to a MC tire after all. Let me know if anybody has ideas or a tire I have not found yet. Im stumped and spring is here....time to ride. Thanks in advance.

B B, I looked at the tire caculator using 200/50-17 as your current tire and a 205/45 17.
The 205/45 17 came up as 0.2 inches wider and 0.61 inches smaller in diameter.. TireRack.com shows a General G-max as-03 in the 205/45-17 size as available.. Hopes this helps. Tire Rack also has a screen where it shows tire sizes available for a spacific rim size.

I'm running the Yokohama 195/45/17. No problems with hitting the rim. I had to adjust the speedometer a little bit with the size difference. Only 10mm smaller than the 205 which isn't really noticeably.
