Just talked to my Indy who installed my 150 battle Ax this week. I asked him your question.
He said;
1) There is not much extra room up there after installing the 150.
But even more importantly,
2) No way he would be willing to mount a 160 series tire on the stock 3" rim. He said my 150 was right on the verge of puckering where it meets the rim.
Hope that helped....

PFWiz,
After getting your 150/70 ? mounted how much clearence was there between the tire and fender at the top of the tire ?
having scored a set of air strike rims (new take offs with abs barings) I'm looking at a 150/70 18. Tire calculator says the sidewall and section width are the same, the overall height is 1" taller ( 1/2" closer to the fender at the top) there for the need for more input.
