Also, FWIW, not sure it will always hold true under ALL conditions but see below. If upon merging one is putting a NEWER post merged INTO an OLDER post, then the computer assigned thread number is possibly lower. Lower indicating the earlier (older) thread. The one that came before the duplicate.

Of course this may fall apart further than the Grand Canyon chasm when you are talking about diff Forums since the numbering systems may be independent.
