Bought my 1st Harley while deployed

RE: Bought my 1st Harley while deployed
Basically the deal the all of the American manufactures have with AAFES is 3% below invoice. If you are really good at working the stateside dealerships, you can match or even beat that. The only disadvantage I found when I got my bike in Korea in 02 was that they only give a certain number of bikes (and cars) to sell, so I had to settle for my EGC (best thing that could have happened, I love my bike!!) cause all the RK's where spoken for. It is a great deal and the dealership on this end was great on the delivery. BTW, USAA is awesome for insurance. Read this story:

Where do you get the 3% discount from? All of my quotes were 8.5% below MSRP. I purchased a 2-tone 2008 Dyna FXDL for $14998 thats including the feight and prep, MSRP for the bike in the states is $15650 and depending on where you go say another $1000 for shipping and freight. I'm not going to say I saved a bundle but I did saveat least $1700 if you can get the bike for MSRP.

I am presently deployed to Afghanistan. I am looking to pick up my FXDL sometime in January. I will then PCS to Korea in June 2008. I plan on keeping my FXDL until I return to the US at which time my bike will be up for sale to the highest bidder. I bet I can get a good price for a slightly used Big Bore Harley, especially since it is difficult to buy these bikes over there. I will then place an order for a 2011 Street Glide to be delivered upon my return to the US. Can't wait, woohoo!
I don't know where I will be stationed when I return to Korea. I would like to be stationed in Seoul, but Humphreys will be ok too. I am looking forward to riding with some of the guys over there, as I know there is a large military and Ex-pat community full of Harley riders.

Interesting thing about AAFES HD sales in Korea, you can order a big twin, but only for stateside delivery. If you want your bike delivered in Korea, your only option is a Sportster. I was told by the sales guy that the restriction was put in place by the Korean government. Still, I don't know of anyone who has sold their Harley to a Korean.

If so, I recommend you do your homework and see what kind of mods, taxes, import fees there are to import a HD into Korea. I'm not exactly in your situation but here in Japan it's a pain in the rear and very expensive to bring a US spec bike into the country. I have purchased two HD's through NCS and if I'm not mistaken you can back out any time before delivery. Check it out, it might save you a lot of headaches down the road.
Again, Korea could be totally different but still recommend you check into it.

RE: Bought my 1st Harley while deployed
I'm glad I found this thread...good information here.
I'm currently in Iraq, and leaving shortly. I've finally decided to quit denying myself a Harley, and the deals here are better than in the states...I was quoted $14,931 for an '08 Street Bob, including of course the 5-year wty and alarm. Of course they don't have '08s available in the color I want, which pushes me back to an '09, with delivery for November.[>:] Haven't cut the deal yet, I'm still number crunching...any other advice?

 \\;Take or send the qoute to a loacl deal car or bike they will met the price the dicount comes from The manufacturer not the dealer. dealers may even throw in some extras.
As for the no tax thing while deployed in theater BS.
When you pick up your bike and order plates you will pay every dime in tax in every state in the US. We have seen this time and time agin.
I bought my wife a new car just befor we came home the last time from a local dealer just to prove I could beat or met the exchange price. Local dealer beat it by 50 dollars

Interestingly enough, they aren't always cheaper through AAFES. \\;\\\\\\; My buddy's FatBoy was cheaper through the dealer near Fort Drum. \\;\\\\\\; However, he bought his wife a Low Rider and AAFES was a couple grand less. \\;\\\\\\; I think it's smart to always compare prices.
 \\;
 \\;
As for the "no taxes" that'll be the case until you go register it unless you register it in a state, like NH, that doesn't tax vehicles.
