How can you travel, if you cannot go over night without a tender?

Some people I know were talking about dealers not being able to start bikes because of the batteries. I thought they were being dramatic. Maybe not.
That’s exactly what I asked when I was told this. The response was “I hear your frustrations and concerns but this is just how these bikes are. There’s a lot going on with them”.

I’ve heard similar statements from owners from their HD dealer so I’m assuming this is what they’re being told to say.

When the battery is new you can get away without having it on the tender but over time it’ll kill the battery. It’s most definitely a flaw.

I can leave my truck for a couple weeks of charger, if you can't do this with a new harley, they got some design issues in my opinion, I never thought I would sound like those guys saying how they don't like the new looks and such. I have said for years time marches on and things get better. And the old ones despite what we tell ourselves get old. But last few months, I am seeing a twinge of tbose old duffs in me.

Because I am not sure I believe it, still.

But the difference between me and the guy with the disability is, you can tell me. You can quote 2 sentences, over and over again, and he don't get it. maybe he has other issues pain meds, I don't know. Dope. I dunno.

I ride very sporadically. Between kids and work, I never really know when I can ride next. So mine lives on the tender. I've never had an issue with a dead battery.

It sounds like the OP has found the issue though. I know the standard Nightsters have different controls than the Pan Am's and Sportster S's, so it's totally possible there's a flaw/defect that's specific to the Nightsters.

The concern to me, when a battery lives on a tender, is that you never know when it died, You may learn this at the first gas stop. My tractor has been on a charger for a long time. I leave some of my off road vehicles on chargers, but have started to take them off the day before use,

My redneck load test, is the bike won't start after sitting for a few days.

Well after two and a half months of phone calls , emails regarding the Nightster battery discharge.
i had a phone call this morning from the Harley dealership saying they have both my replacement handlebar controls in and have booked me in to have them fitted on the 21st September under warranty, they will also check the condition of the battery under warranty.

Well yesterday I rode the HD to the dealers to have the discharge problem fixed under warranty.

they replaced both the RH and the LH hand handlebar controllers. Apparently this is a common problem with the Nightster models so hopefully this will fix the problem. I will let you know if it has 🤞
While they were working on the bike me and my wife went up to the clothing department, where lots of HD attire was purchased 😁

I'm glad they got it figured out!
