Default 3.3 gal tank to a 2.1 forty eight tank

I have seen where alot of people swap out the 2.1 gallon tank for a 3.3 gallon. I am looking at putting a 2.1 on my 07 and removing the 3.3 gallon peanut tank.
Someone mentioned that they heard my stock fuel pump might not swap over since the 2.1 tank is smaller. Anyone know if this is true? I want a smaller tank for my 07 since its been converted to a dirt track bike only. Also if anyone wants to swap me for my 3.3 gallon tank. It has no damage and is oem pearl white. It comes off my 2007 XL883L. I dont care what color it is, just no damage.

Everything I’ve read references a vacuum or drain line (I forget which) that has to be shortened if going from a 2.1 to 3.3 (you would need a longer one I’d assume)..besides that I believe it’s a direct swap.

I always read it was a direct swap. Same as above the vent line might need lengthened or shortened. I’m putting a 4.5 gallon on my 72 in 2.5 weeks. If I don’t like it I’d trade you.

I would gladly trade you but, I never really worked on anything and don't know how to swap a tank yet. I want a bigger 3.3 gallon to have the extra gas without changing the look too much. If I can find someone to do it or show me how, we could work it out.

Literally two bolts, fuel line, an electrical connector, and the vent tube. Voila, you got the tank off. Then it is just matter of swapping the fuel pump which is a very tight fit but not impossible. That is unless your replacement tank already has a fuel pump.

Well if you decide to do it, and you need a tank. I have a 2.1 that was custom painted that I'm looking to sell.

It`s a straight and easy swop, I went from 2.1 to 3.3 on my 72. while I was refitting the pump I installed the fuel sender kit as well which made it a tight squeeze. The overflow pipe is a bit longer on the 2.1 tank so you need to tuck some of it up under the 3.3 tank or cut it
