I don't think you can use the shifter from forwards. You can use the peg but not the part that attaches to the engine.

You can use that shifter. Take it off from the 12 o'clock position, move it to 9 o'clock and put on a toe peg. Bamm and you're rolling

correction, I meant to say 6 o'clock. Check out the pic. The part that's attached to the motor is the shift lever.

I found a pic of the shift lever in the 12 o'clock position. Confirms what I said above. Apparently, the shift rod can connect to the shift lever in either the 6 o'clock or 12 o'clock positions.
