2003 1200 with 1000 miles.

When i ride the light comes on once in a while. Even at highway speeds.

Everything looks ok. Oil is moving in tank, engine sounds good. no knocking, not running hot. Oil temp dipstick reads 190-200 degrees.

This is my first Harley, so not sure if this is just a dummy light or what.

Any input is appreciated. Paul

 

Sounds like a bad sending unit, corrosion on sending unit wires or bad wiring. I would start with cleaning the wire contacts, if that doesn't help try a new sending unit.
