Default Is 500 Miles too soon to start upgrading??

I just recently bought my 07 XL1200C in the pacific blue, have been riding it as weather allows (Seattle area) and I want to start installing my upgrades. I have reservations only because I talked to a dealership and they stated that the ECU's on the 07 run rich for the 1st 1000 miles and then lean them selfs out. I just dont want to damage the bike. Here is what I have bought so far

Hypercharger Pro A/C assembly
Wet Dreamz Pipes........ pipedreamz.biz these guys are all about the sporty
PCIII USB For the 07 EFI

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

I think that statement from the dealer is 100% genuine crap. If the bikes ran so lean as to damage the engine stock, then harley would never give a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.

One more question on upgrades. What is your guys take on torque cones? Some of thereading I have done say they are necessary when running a strait pipe, and the dealership says they will eventually damage the engine. I guess I am looking for unbiased real world input.

The dealer is wrong on both issues. Torque cones will help with straight pipes . Make sure your not running too lean after you open up the stock intake and exhaust...Mark...

With that power commander you can download different fuel mappings. You should be able to tune it to suit the straight pipes.

no drummer you will be fine with just a down load , a tuner would be nice especially if you are planning on doing cams and head work but not necessary for stage one.

The dealer is straight out lying to you. The map is what is is it doesnt change all by it's lonesome. But I would say at least break the thing in before you start changing things. And don't wast you cash on the dealer map download. Go buy yourself a power commander and you can adjust it all you want, whenever you want.

Do yourself a favor and never return to that dealer again. They are just feeding you BS and trying to seperate you from your money. As for the torque cones, they help somewhat with straight pipes. However, straight pipes are horrible for performance and will destroy any performance you have down low. Unless you like the sound and are willing to take the huge hit in lowend performance, then I would advice against straight pipes.

You can rework the bike right out of the box. The only problem is that it is very tempting to actually use them before the bike is properly run in, and that is what can damage the engine. So, if you have a great deal of self restraint, go for it. Otherwise, wait untill the thousand mile service.

As for cones or not cones, the way the rest of the exhaust system is tuned determines which is best. Neither will do any damage to the engine, but mismatching the rest of the system will cost you some performance.
