I have a question, will I have to buy a special tool to put a new rivet in after I drill the old one out and complete the repair or will any basic rivet tool work? I've never really dealt with rivets before.
Just a pop rivet gun. About $20 at your local hardware store.

you can replace the rivets with screws..I can't remember the size, but the new after market covers come with screws, so if you do a search for covers and look at the parts list you may be able to find the size.
