when somebody shows me a dyno sheet where they can take a set of 1200 jugs and pistons and put them on an 883 and make the same horsepower and torque as a stage one 1200 with out doing any head work or cams I will eat crow, but until then I will maintain its easier and just as cheap to buy a stock 1200. now the difference in an 883 and a 1200 is riding 2 up and rolling on the throttle to pass at 70 mph and having to down shift to pass that same car on an 883.
Im not saying the 883 is a dog at all , Im mearly stating the difference and by the same token my son can roll on the throttle going 60mph on his yamaha r1 and stand it on the back tire which means diddley squat to me. im happy with what I got . if your not going to be doing alot of high speed 80 mph+ riding then the 883 will be fine . the speed limit here is 65mph and I can keep up with the pack on my wifes buell blast 500cc all day long until they decide to run over 100mph .
I got a plate all ready for ya! My 883 conversion was the best money I've spent on it yet.

mark--take a long look at that 06. There is nothing wrong with the harley carb. just a little longer warm up. the 06's are fantastic sporties....especially after a stage 1. 7g's is a good fair price for an 883C.

Rob,

I thinkthe 06 883Cis a very good price to. Especially with him throwing in the dealer prep and doc fee. The thing is this will probably be my first and only new bike purchase and I really don't want to (settle). Most of the price would be on my credit card if I bought a bike now, so I decided to wait a little and get what I really want, the 1200c with all the chrome and the EFI and to pick the color i wanted (yellow or the deep blue) which they didn't have. All that was left were the colors no one wanted, like the pewter and black.I can put away about $1,000 a month for it, so it won't take long to save up. Then I can order a new 08 just the way I want it.

That is a good plan. You sound like a guy with a good head on his shoulders.

If there was one thing I wish I had, it would be the EFI. I couldn't give 2 craps about a rubber mounted engine, but I hate fooling around with the stupid choke (enricher) cable. I don't care how much you adjust it, when it gets in a mood it just does not want to stay open for nothing.

My kit came with 1200 heads and Wiseco dished pistons. I already had the SE a/c and dynojet kit. No cams or other head work. Just a standard bolt on. I can't tell you exact numbers, but shop that did it said that the HP isover 70with 70+ pound feet of torque. I'd love to see the dyno numbers on it.

I would look into purchasing your bike privately, you can find what your looking for for thousands less if you have patience and are good with the computer. I got my 2004 xl 1200custom for 6800 with 2000miles on it.I think this was a great deal, I looked around for awhile and couldn't find a deal close to it, but you got to be willing to wait and look everywhere, finally found mine on craigslist.

well for what its worth, i've a 1200 and my old girlfriend has an 883. as has been said the 1200 has to be the choice really, no question. its not just the engine size its the whole thing. the 1200 just rides better with the larger capacity. but if money is short, definetly look for a good second hand. there are a couple of sporty's in my local dealer with a lot less than a 1000 miles onthe clock, so they are out there. let someone else take the depreciation, "although that is lower than any other bike i know of."

That price for a new 06 is something too seriously consider. Like has been said, carbs really aren't that bad.
