Default 2007 1200C Front Brake

Just purchassed a 2007 1200C. Problem. I have 120 miles on it now but ever since I have owened it the front disk has squeeled like a Pig or should I say HOG ?

Dealer says Its because asbestos is no longer used I say BS! Is this rotor out of line ? Your opinions please.

Also,I have to pull the lever in about half way before I begin to feel any grab. Is this normal for a Harley. Dealer says there is no adjustment for this. Can this be right? (Can't believe it).

Have been riding now for about 35 years but this is my first HarleyDavidson. Your experience and opinions appreciated.

Thanks, Jumpman

mine squeals a bit too. has from day 1. brakes work fine and it seemed to quiet a bitover time and miles. I think it's a pretty common complaint. doesn't really bother me.

I get a little bit of a squeek on mine just before I stop and put my feet down. haven't paided much attention as to where it starts to grab, seems like almost imediately!

I noticed the same thing and did some research here....from what I read on the other posts it's normal and not an indication of something wrong with the brake.

I don't know anything about the squealing, but the brake should start grabbing very soon after you pull in the lever. Mine is very sensitive, starts grabbing right away. Maybe you have some air in the line?

At 2500 miles, I switched to the Lyndall carbon/kevlars. No more squeek, dust or fade.

Yes, your dealer is full of it? How much squeal are you talking about? Normally the brakes won't squeal, but they do under hard braking.

Also, I have to pull the lever in about half way before I begin to feel any grab. Is this normal for a Harley. Dealer says there is no adjustment for this. Can this be right? (Can't believe it).
That is not normal at all. The lever will be stiff and will engage right away even with the pad almost completely gone. If you have to pull in the level half way then there is something wrong. My first guess is that it is probably air in the system. I would start by bleeding the brakes and see if that fixes the problem.
