Chamfering the edges of the brake pads helps a lot. Most autoparts stores carry some stuff that looks like blue RTV (not RTV, just looks like ot) that you smear in between the pads and the caliper to dampen brake noise. The biggest factor in brake squeel is the hardness of the friction material. Soft stuff is usually quieter, but it doesn't stop as well and wears out pretty quick.
