Helmet or drag chute

Helmet or drag chute
With summer coming up I decided to switch from a full face Screaming Eagle helmet to the new Harley carbon kevlor half helmet. The good news was it was 17% off for St Patricks day. The bad news is that at about 60 MPH if you look up, it acts like a drag chute and wants to tear your head off. Sizing was correct, fits like a glove, have tried with and without dew rag, any suggestions?

Its because HD helmets have a large profile (far from being slimline). I've been using a stock HD half helmet for a yr. whichcan really catch the windas you described and just bought a cheap Jafrum DOT half helmet which is slimmer in width and hgt. and its a world of difference.

I had a niece leisurely ride down the coast then up into the mountains for lunch last weekend then decided to take the freeway home. I road 80 mph all the way home for about 45 minutes. I was wearing my skid lid and man was my neck sore from fighting the drag chute effect! I definitely prefer my full face helmet if I'm going to be at freeway speed for any length of time!

If your helmet has the typical three snaps on the front for a visor, then perhaps you should get a flip shieldvisor/face shield combination, which will keep the wind out of your helmet and bugs out of your face.
Bell and others sell these for their 1/2 and 3/4 helmets in a couple of different shield sizes (http://www.bellhelmets.com/index.cfm...ategory_id=220), and their snaps are adjustable to fit all sorts of different makes, models and other manufacturers. I use the same one on my THH 1/2 helmet and on my Rodia 3/4 helmet.
The face shield will rotate up and out of the way when you want to get some air on your face, as well.
If your riding buddies laugh at you for wearing it, laugh at them when you see them picking bugs out of their teeth or blood off their face from some stone that struck them.

My HD helmet does the same thing, even with a windshield. If I'm getting on the highway I really tighten the straps. If I don't the helmet moves back and my goggles want to come off my face. The goggles slid far enough one day I had to grab them just as they were coming off my face. Not fun at 70mph.
